What is Boost?

Why we chose Boost as our charity?

Each kid in the BCHS BizKidz class made a presentation about a different charity that we should raise money for and after the results came out, BOOST was one of the highest voted charities. We are all excited to be supporting a great cause that most people seem to not notice. Every day, there are so many children affexcted by verbal, physical or mental abuse, we want to stop this from happening. BOOST is local, heart-touching, and affecting a lot of children.

Boost CYAC is committed to eliminating abuse and violence in the lives of children, youth, and their families. We believe that all children and youth have a right to grow up in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. We are dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and violence through education and awareness, and to collaborating with our community partners to provide services to children, youth, and their families.

History

Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) was first established in 1981 by Paul Godfrey (then Chairman of Metropolitan Toronto), as The Metropolitan Toronto Chairman’s Special Committee on Child Sexual Abuse. We later became an organization under the name, The Special Committee on Child Abuse. In 1997, the Special Committee was renamed Toronto Child Abuse Centre and expanded its mandate to address all forms of child abuse. Ten years later, the agency was renamed Boost Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention®.
The new name, along with tagline “We Give Kids A Lift When They Need It The Most®” was chosen to reflect Boost’s positive, strength-based approach to children and families. In 2013, Boost opened Toronto’s first CYAC, in collaboration with several community partners. In 2015, the agency was renamed Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.the

What they do

Boost is a non-profit, community-based organization that provides programs and services for children, youth and their families after abuse or violence has occurred. Boost also provides prevention programming and training for parents, professionals, post-secondary students and the community.

Boost CYAC provides a creative response to child abuse investigations bringing together all professionals involved in child abuse cases under one roof.
Boost’s commitment to the children comes from their passionate work and focus on the best interests of all the children. They recognize the uniqueness of each child and strive to adapt their services to be responsive and flexible to each and every situation.
By putting children’s needs first, Boost works at building effective relationships with the children, youth and their families. By their words and actions, Boost demonstrates respect for the children, youth and their families they serve.
